Frequently Asked Questions

Is a postnatal course different from a baby activity course?

Yes. IAIM baby massage offers a very different experience to a typical “baby activity” class.

IAIM baby massage is suitable and beneficial from birth and is specifically designed to support both babies and parents during the early postnatal period. Our carefully selected venues and researched programme create a calm, nurturing environment free from overstimulation.

Classes provide a friendly, safe space for postpartum mothers (and partners) to come together, learn valuable skills, and enjoy facilitated discussions on evidence-based parenting topics. Sessions focus on bonding, communication, relaxation, and wellbeing supporting both baby and parent without pressure or performance.

You’ll gain practical skills to support your baby, including relief from trapped wind, colic, discomfort, and overstimulation, while strengthening your connection and confidence as a parent.

How do I book a place?

Please complete and submit an enquiry form. Caroline will reply within 48 hours (or up to 7 days during school holidays) with current availability, pricing, and next steps. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions before confirming your booking.

When is the best age to start baby massage classes?

Whenever you feel ready.

Thanks to IAIM and RCM accreditation, classes are suitable from birth or full-term corrected age. Once you’ve completed the initial 5-week course, you’re welcome to continue with our relaxed follow-on Baby Club until your baby turns 12 months.

What if my baby cries during class?

Crying is completely normal  all babies are welcome in all moods.

Our unrushed sessions allow plenty of time and space for feeding, changing, cuddling, rocking, or simply taking a pause. It’s very common to see parents moving around the circle meeting their baby’s needs, and you’ll be supported every step of the way. We’re all in the same stage of life, and the atmosphere is understanding and inclusive.

Can my partner attend?

Yes  partners are welcome to attend baby massage classes at our  Hitchin venue, as long as this is arranged in advance.

Please note:

  • Baby Club and Wellbeing sessions are for mum and baby only

  • The Letchworth venue is best suited for one parent and baby

Can I bring older siblings?

Group classes are designed for parents and babies under 12 months, so older siblings are unable to attend.

However, 121 home sessions are available in and around North Hertfordshire and can be tailored to your family’s needs.

How much does the baby massage course cost?

Our IAIM Baby Massage course is £85 per family.

This includes high-quality postnatal education delivered by a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, accredited by the RCM, with extensive training in massage, reflexology, and aromatherapy for both babies and adults.

I am committed to offering the highest standard of infant massage education in a calm, supportive environment. Pricing reflects the expertise, preparation, venue costs, and ongoing professional development required to deliver this service. I invite you to read our Google reviews to see the value families experience.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions last between 1–2 hours and are intentionally unrushed. This allows time to:

  • Learn and repeat massage strokes when baby is ready or on a doll.

  • Ask questions

  • Cover postnatal parenting topics

  • Enjoy facilitated discussions

  • Relax with a hot cuppa (and cake!)

Baby Club sessions are one hour.

Is there an extra charge for twins or multiples?

No there’s no additional charge for twins or multiples. Our focus is supporting you, the parent, to learn how to massage your baby or babies with confidence.

If both parents would like to attend, please check which venues are best suited for two adults.

Is there parking available?

Yes.

  • Baldock: Plenty of free parking nearby

  • Hitchin - pay and display at next door carpark whilst venue renovations are underway.

  • & Letchworth: Free on-site parking

Is there space for prams?

Yes, all venues offer indoor pram storage. The Letchworth venue is slightly smaller, so we ask that prams are only brought inside if you’ve walked to the venue or there is a medical need.

Are toilets available?

Yes — accessible toilets and hand-washing facilities are available at all venues.

How can I make sure I’m booked onto the same class as my friend?

Simply include your friend’s name on your enquiry or booking form.

What oil will we use?

Your welcome pack includes a bottle of high quality natural oil selected by an aromatherapist. We’ll also cover oil choices and safety during the first session. Please bring £1.50 if you would like an extra bottle.

Does massage help babies sleep better?

Many parents report that their babies sleep beautifully after massage. It’s common to see babies drift off during class while parents enjoy a warm drink and relaxed discussion.

Can massage help with colic?

Yes. The IAIM colic routine, tummy massage, and gentle movements are designed to support digestion, relieve trapped wind, and promote relaxation.

The IAIM Colic Routine© was developed alongside medical professionals and child psychologists to safely support gut development, reduce discomfort, and ease tension.
